First post from travels - A single step

A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.*

And so began our journey this morning. A step out the door. A step on to the plane. A step on to Michigan territory - the Detroit airport. And now, waiting for a step on to the plane that will take us to Beijing, the first step in the peregrinatipns that will lead us to our daughter. We will try and post whenever we get a few moments. Thanks for checking in and supporting us on this journey.

* From the quote by Chinese philosopher Laozi (c 604 bc - c 531 bc) in the Tao Te Ching, chapter 64. Although this is the popular form of this quotation, another translation from the original Chinese might be "The journey of a thousand miles begins beneath one's feet." Rather than emphasizing the first step, Laozi would have regarded action as something that arises naturally from stillness. Another potential phrasing would be "Even the longest journey must begin where you stand" or "A journey of a thousand miles begins at the spot under one's feet."
